WILD BOAR (Sus scrofa) in Poland can be found virtually anywhere, however, there are clear tendencies towards concentration near intensely agriculturally developed regions. Wild Boar occurs in especially great quantities in the western and northern part of the country in the following Regions of Poland (Voivodships): Zachodniopomorskie, Pomorskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie, Wielkopolskie, Lubuskie and Podkarpackie |

Trophy: Wild Boar has a trophy in the form of tusks in the lower and upper jaw. The main indicator for a hunter is the length and circumference of lower tusks. The tusk length depends on Wild Boar’s age and on what it feeds on. Rippers (lower tusks) of Wild Boar aged 5-6 years old can measure 16-18cm. The tusks of older Wild Boar, 7-8 years old, can reach up to 23-24cm. It can be generally assumed that medal trophies begin from the length of about 21cm. Best dates: Wild Boar, except for sows, are hunted almost all year long, i.e. from 1st April till the end of February. If you want to hunt Wild Boar individually, it is best to do it in the following period: a week prior to and a week after a full moon in November, December and January. If you are a group of over 8 hunters and have decided to come to group hunting, the best months are also definitely November, December, January, regardless of the moon, however. Obviously individual Wild Boar hunting can be combined with individual hunting for Roebucks in May and when they are on heat, as well as with Deer bull hunt in the rutting season.
Hunting method: As have been mentioned earlier, there are two ways of Wild Boar hunting: individual and group hunting. The individual variant is hunting at night under a full moon, because the night is the time of intense Wild Boar foraging and rooting for food. In search for food Wild Boar come out to bait areas and fields, which makes them clearly visible in the moon light. Foraging Wild Boar are hunted most often either from a raised hide, i.e. a highly situated hiding place, or by stalking them on foot. A totally different Wild Boar hunting method is group hunting. Group hunting is carried out in the following way: a group of hunters spreads one next to another and surrounds a certain part of the forest where Wild Boar can be found. Then, people with dogs are let in the surrounded part of the forest and their task is to flush out Wild Boar onto the previously set hunters. It is an extremely exciting way of hunting, requiring the hunters to have good shooting skills and great reflex. On average, 7-10 chases are carried out daily depending on the landform features. A well shooting group can shoot 8-12 Wild Boar a day.
